Perspectives on America from Abroad

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
All the righteous folderol and jingoistic umbrage and teacup tempest over the "under god" blurb in the pledge of allegiance (why a pledge of allegiance--is it a matter of some doubt?), it's like cultural kindergarten. As though in the big picture book god were actually smiling benignly down on the antics of the pseudoprez and his handlers and their imperial ambitions. Citizens ignorant of the rest of the world (an American characteristic; ask anybody in another country) are writing in to the media saying how wonderful America is compared to elsewhere, but I know a lot of places that are just as beautiful, much safer, a lot cleaner, more tolerant, healthier and way closer to reality. Reality is more than a border defined in a law book requiring a pledge of allegiance and claiming the support of god.
