~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ It is an epitome of America that the big match in the news right now is between Rush Limbaugh and Bill O'Reilly on Chicago radio, and that the obese one from Mars beat the Irish one from Mars 23 to 1, and that people actually care about these two stiffnecks and their ratings, and that such myopics are opinion leaders in America. Actually, it should come as no surprise; what can I have been thinking, forgetting H. L. Mencken like that. At least the drivel of these guys doesn't spread easily around the world; America's rep is as bad right now as corporations and presidents can make it. posted by Robert Brady 10:17 PM . . .
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ "Over the past five years," says Tom Schatz, president of Citizens Against Government Waste, "lawmakers have spent a total of $142 billion" more than their budgets allowed. "That's more than 12 times the misstated figures from Enron, Xerox and Worldcom combined." Is the US government just another American corporation? posted by Robert Brady 4:25 AM . . .
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ From here, the way the Dow is all coming down reminds me of the end of the one-week carnivals they used to have outside of town, when the night-lit neon glittery facades came down and you'd see in the light of day that the magic of every single low-tent show was illusion after all: Enron, GlobalCrossing, Worldcom, right down the line, till all was closed and on the wagons and rolling to the next town down the line, where the magic might still be new... reminds me of Republican elections, too... posted by Robert Brady 9:54 PM . . .
